AQVA-HEAT II - Investment project for the creation of the experimental infrastructure

Development and testing of a full-year thermal use of surface waters as a heat source by using vacuum liquid ice technology in combination with a heat pump within future local and district heating network structures

In the AQVA-HEAT II project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) and the Saxon Ministry for Regional Development (SMR) as part of the Coal Regions Investment Act (InvKG), the detailed design of the individual components of the AQVA HEAT concept and their integration into an overall interacting system will be carried out. This will be followed by the procurement of the individual components, associated peripherals (piping system, pumps, ICA) and the construction of the research infrastructure at the Zittau and Weißwasser sites. This will enable the system to be developed and demonstrated for the first time in its overall functionality (heat generation). The infrastructure offers the fundamental basis for a broad investigation of the application "heat supply" and furthermore enables the anchoring of research and development activities around the topic "water as refrigerant in supply infrastructures" in the represented network of Lusatian institutions and companies. In addition to the first-time demonstration of the overall process from a technological point of view, first-time findings on the ecological effects on water bodies are to be developed within the scope of the required seasonal testing, which in turn form the basis for a standardized approval of these systems on the part of the responsible authorities.
